Vijećnica, Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina

About one year ago, I asked my friends to take part in action : Books 4 Vijecnica organized by Humanity in Action Senior Fellows Network. Some replayed, some didn’t treat it seriously, knowing that reconstruction of this most beautiful example of pseudo-Moorish building has taken years and years.

Fortunately, a lot of work was done since last year and right now it’s possible to see at least part of reconstructed Vijećnica. Erected in 1896, it was place for City Hall until the end of World War II, after it became the National Library, which was destroyed during 1992 shelling.

Vijećnica, a symbol of Sarajevo, is on the World Monument Watch List since 2008.

I also advice you to go on www.vijecnica.ba to know more about it and see some old pictures.

    1. I'm just a polish girl who decided once to try life in Bosnia and Herzegovina and right now I'm a "fighter" for this country... to show other face of BiH to the world. Best regards

Ach zobaczyć te krużganki i całe wnętrze...

  6. Doronette,

I'm so happy to have the link about Vijećnica, and can't wait until this evening when I have more time to investigate it thoroughly. What a beautiful city. It's wonderful for us that you are a fighter for this country, giving the west a view we would not otherwise see...well, at least me :-) This is stunning architecture. I think it is very true to its Moorish roots.

    Thank you!

    1. Dear Nanina,

hope you enjoyed the link. Unfortunately, Bosnia hasn't got good image. I mean at least here, in Europe. Mostly people think only of the last war and these all bad things. Country is still partly destroyed but it's also true that's good to come here and feel the life on Balkans! It's really sth special ! So, here I am. And I'm really happy if I can convice someone to discover Bosnia !

      Big Hugs and Kisses
